About the Artist: Junko Mizuno
Born in Tokyo, Junko Mizuno is a self-taught artist recognized for her unique style of powerful and erotic female imagery. Her work explores both sweet and sadistic tendencies; a polarity Mizuno feels is more interesting than perfection. This combination of cuteness and darkness defies categorization, but her work has been called "gothic kawaii". Fueled by a passion to create, Mizuno is inspired by Japanese comics, American illustrators, fairytales and lots and lots of toys. Mizuno's published works include Pure Trance, Little Fluffy Gigolo PELU, and Cinderalla. Her original characters have appeared as vinyl toys by Kidrobot and Fewture and rock posters for Faith No More and The Melvins. A prolific designer, Mizuno's art has adorned everything from shirts and stationery to condoms and My Little Pony. She is represented by Gallery Nucleus in LA and Magic Pony in Toronto. Mizuno lives in San Francisco, where she is working on a picture book and constantly creating.
